Martin D. Ellis was born in New York state ca. 1828. He enlisted in Company B, 4th Michigan Infantry on 4 Sept 1864 at Hudson (Lenawee County), Michigan. He was mustered out on 26 May 1866 at Houston, Texas.

He died in December 1869 in Cambridge (now Cambridge Junction), Michigan in Lenawee County. At the time he was a farmer, and the cause of his death was listed as "consumption" (tuberculosis). I would think he would be buried in or near Cambridge Junction.

His wife was Sarah C. Ellis who was born in New York ca. 1825. She was living in Hillsdale, Michigan in 1890.
