UNDER CONSTRUCTION: A NEW NARRATIVE HISTORY OF THE 4th MICHIGAN INFANTRY REGIMENT IN THE CIVIL WAR
June 9. 2007
Dear Michigan Civil War buff, collector, genealogist or re-enactor,
Two veteran Civil War researchers and writers, Marty Bertera (author of “The 4th Michigan Infantry at the Battle of New Bridge,” Tillieagnes Press, 2003) and Kim Crawford (“The 16th Michigan,” Morningside Books, 2002) have teamed up to produce a thorough narrative history of the 4th Michigan Infantry Regiment.
Marty has been doing research on this distinguished regiment for two decades; early in 2005, Kim began to put Marty’s research into manuscript form. Though there is no definite timetable for this project, the manuscript could be completed sometime in 2006. At whatever point our work nears completion, we’ll seek a publisher for our book on the 4th Michigan.
If you have manuscript sources relating to the 4th Michigan, such as letters or diaries, or portraits or other kinds of materials that you would be willing to copy, transcribe or otherwise share with us, please contact Marty Bertera at berteramarty@netscape.net or Kim Crawford at kmcrawf@concetric.net. All we can offer you in return, should we be able to use your contribution, is a copy of the finished project and our thanks.
Or, if you are a serious collector and have concerns or questions about sharing items, please contact a fellow Civil War collector, George Wilkinson at Lionview@aol.com , who is helping our effort with offers of the use of his own manuscript collection as well as pictures of artifacts and copies of portraits.
Thank you for your consideration.
Kim Crawford Martin N. Bertera
