The Michigan in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Evans cousins 26th Michigan

At times, many were sent on detached duties and often these units found themselves in support of each other during the Civil War as both were in the Army of the Potomac. Army Corps were changed around at time during the war, likley due to the frequent change in commanders. In 1864 the 16th MI was in the 5th Corps while Berdan's U.S. Sharpshooters were assigned from the 2nd Corps. The 16th Michigan actually had their own sharpshooters though. There were two companies, Kin S. Dygert’s and George Jardine’s Sharpshooters. Kim Crawford wrote a regimental history of the 16th Michigan several years ago.

I know in my current writings that the men frequently went over to visit friends in other units and Corps during the campaigns, (including visits with members of the 16th Michigan). Anyway, 'looking forward to seeing the history. Thanks so much! - Len
