In order for any of us to assist in researching the history of the soldier, it would be helpful to state what the actual item is that carries this identification. That would give us a better sense of the military time period as well as the possible branch of service that he may have served in. Any chance of posting an image of the item, or at least sharing a detailed description of it? A photo of the "identification" itself would also be of great benefit in the task.
