Re: My family in Michigan regiments

Hi. Yes I had a distant relative in the 5th Michigan Cav., Co.D. His name was Justus Sandborn and he was a brother-in-law to my greatgrandmother. The last part of his enlistment he was transfer to the Veterans Reserve Corp( invalid corp, due to injury or sickness). He was a guard in the Prision Camp for rebel P.O.W. at Sandusky,Ohio. (the site of the present day amusement park Cedar Point.)My g/grandmothers sister Harriet went to stay at the camp with him. She made pies to sell to the soldiers to make ends meet. She had to make them under candlelite at night because of no light at night order. Justus died in October, 1865 shortly after the wars end due to his afflictions in the war leaving behind a widow and 5 children. He was only 34. He is buried at Portland, Michigan.
