Thanks for the note. Yes, I am absolutely aware of Ritter's submissions to the Southern Historical Society Papers. He also made a contribution to the 1900 "The Maryland Line in the Confederate Army" by W. W. Goldsborough. I need to compare and contrast the writings to see what details differ.
I have Hoehling's book on my shelf. It is one of those books that drive me wild (in a bad way) because it doesn't really properly footnote so your not sure where the citation same from. Kind of like Shelby Foote.
I haven't seen this Claiborne diary but I am aware of it and it is on my list of "to do's." I have seen another that covers later in the war and it is at the Library of Congress. I will dig around and see what I can come up with.
