Re: Baltimore Light Artillery
In Response To: Baltimore Light Artillery ()

I am by no means an expert on Maryland Civil War units. I am assuming, given the name, that the Baltimore Light Artillery was a Confederate unit, as Federal units tended to be known pretty much exclusively by the name of the battery commander or by a numerical designation. However, the 1st Maryland Artillery was a Confederate unit, which I believe was raised in part from Baltimore. If that is the case, you will want to refer to the holographic Memoir of John W. F. Hatton, which is in the Manuscript Division of the Library of Congress. It is available in both the original and in microfilm.

There was another J. W. F. Hatton who was in this samde unit and was killed in the Summer of 1862. I assume that John W. F. Hatton is his son.
