Mr Sturkey:
Yes a good number of Eastern Shore Marylander's joined the Confederate forces as well as their brothers from Delaware.
According to "Lest We Forget" by Susan Cooke Soderberg. the following number of men from the Eastern Shore served:
Talbot County; as listed on the Confederate monument - 85 soldiers and sailors
Kent County: as listed on the Confederate monument 37 soldiers and sailors
Other research has Dorcester County giving 2 sons; Wicomico County giving 5 sons; Somerset County giving 2 sons; Cecil County, giving 4 sons, Queen Ann County giving 1 son; and Worcester County giving 5 sons. These figures are incomplete for the research for the graves of our Confederate heroes is an ongoing endeavor.
The lists given above gives the names but not all sons are laid to rest in Maryland and also there are sons of the South not native to Maryland are laid to rest on the Eastern Shore.
If you have any information on where a Confederate grave is located on the Eastern Shore or anywhere in Maryland, please do not hesitate to reply.
I do not have the numbers for the Delaware boys, however, the Delaware Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans just dedicated a monument to all the Delaware sons that served the Confederacy.
