Reminsicences of Funkston

For people interested in the Invasion of September, 1862, there is an excellent reminiscence written postwar by Angela Kirkham Davis, who was from Batavia, N.Y., but married a Funkston merchant and settled in that town. When the Confederates left Frederick for Hagerstown, her husband, fearing arrest because he was a Union sympathizer, fled to Pennsylvania, leaving Mrs. Daivs and their children. (She ought to have run him off permanently, but apparently she didn't mind.) The 49 page typescript is held by the Connecticut Historical Society, and is well worth a look for those interested in this period.
