"The Coming Man" Blunt

It seems that Gen Blunt was highly regarded by the press in early 1863 after the Battle of Prairie Grove. He was also described as the “The coming man” in terms of being an effective General. It was suggested at the time that his promotion to Major General was required as reward for his service to Kansas. I have heard he was being compared with the very top ranked of the Union army. Who would have been is friends and enemies in high places at that time? Why would he have been held in such high regard?
