Looking at the Provost Marshals records at Springfield Mo. and the Newspapers from St. Louis Democrat, I have found no less than twenty executions in Springfield alone. In Springfield the usual means of execution was by firing squad. One man from the 4th Missouri State Militia Cavalry deserted over to Sid. Jackman and was executed when he was captured. This was a common situation.
