The Kansas in the Civil War Message Board

Wild West Tech "Civil War in the West"

In January of this year, I was contacted by Mr. David Bradford of the History Channel show, Wild West Tech. He informed me that Wild West Tech would be producing a show entitled, "Civil War in the West" and asked if I could put him in touch with historians and authors from our message boards who were experts in this area. I did a mass emailing at the time and many of our finest contributors and researchers responded. Tonight, May 24th at 8 EST/7 CST, this program will air on the History Channel.

Please tune in and I'm sure you'll see some names and faces of your fellow historians and contributors to the message boards here at History-Sites.Com.

Here is the information from the History Channel website for this show:

Civil War in the West.
Airs on Tuesday, May 24 @ 8:00PM ET/PT; May 25 @ 12:00AM ET/PT; May 28 @ 3:30PM ET/PT.

The Civil War is thought of as a conflict between North and South. But the West figured into it, too. There were more than 2,000 battles west of the Mississippi River--action stretched clear to the California coast. The rugged, wide-open West presented special challenges for armies. Soldiers had to be hearty--able to maneuver themselves and equipment through ice, snow, and mountain passes. They often improvised with whatever they had. Shovels and belts proved especially useful. Then there were the arid plains, which required armies to adapt in different ways. Men had to cover great distances in order to get food, arms, and other supplies. We'll take a look at the weapons, clothing, transportation, and tools employed on the Civil War's Western Front. Host: David Carradine. TVPG V
