Black Beaver is credited with leading Lt.Col. Emory's troops to Ft Leavenworth when the US posts in Indian Territory were abandonned but I've found only vague information on his activities during the Civil War.

I ran across a vague reference to him joining the "militia" in Kansas. Was this the Kansas Militia or home guards? A formal Indian organization? An informal organization?

Did he participate or lead the attack on the Wichita Agency and the Tonkawa Massacre?

Did his title of "Captain" come from leading a contingent of Delaware and Shawnee(?) in the Mexican War?

Was he ever compensated by the US Government for the loss of his property during the war?
