Sgt. Alexander of the 7th Kansas Cavalry wrote a death letter to Noah V. Ness's family after his death. It the letter he describes how Noah was shot just above the hip and was taken to a house in Abbeville, MS for his wound. The ball had made its way into the bowels and Noah V. Ness would die two days later. The Sgt. tells how he removed the rings from Noah's hand and returned them with the letter. According to the Sgt. Noah was buried in Abbeville, MS.
