It seems that Thomas Moonlight served under the famous artillery Captain Joseph Roberts (later General) when Moonlight was Sergeant in the 1850's. It seems that Roberts wrote a famous book about the art of artillery in 1863. This may suggest a reason for the quality of Moonlight’s ability in this area during the Civil War on the border of Kansas. Does anyone know of a diary, history or a book about the famous Joseph Roberts of the 4th Artillery particularly his early life as Captain in the 1850's in Texas, Florida and possibly Kansas at Fort Leavenworth?
