The Kansas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Mine Creek Battle area research

Dean:

I have a copy of the "Price Papers" which contains all the written reports concerning his raid through Missouri, but there are no maps in it. The portion devoted to the Mine Creek Battle is extensive, but wouyld not provide you with the material you are seeking. Just a suggestion: Post a query on the Arkansas Message Board. There are some really knowledgeable contributors on it, and the Price raid is a favorite topic. I'll bet you get some worthwhile info. I lived in Kansas for 36 years and travelled that area regularly, but knew nothing about the Mine Creek battle. Some of my ancestors fought there.... on the losing side. Of passing interest, when the Ark. Home Guard units were disbanded shortly after the start of the War, many of the men from this area in it left and joined the 2nd Ark. Cavalry, Union. The ones that stayed with the Confederate forces joined the 7th Cav. Regt. At Mine Creek the 2nd Union Cav. charged the 7th and captured the Regimental commander, Gen. Cabel. Neighbors fought neighbors... ... There were some interesting get togethers locally after the war, but not as many as you might expect.

Just rambling. Try the Arkansas Board, and good luck.
