The Kansas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Kansans Attempt to Break John Brown Out of Jai

"But that it has not been "hidden away" was not my point. My point was that where you have (as I read it) posited one huge conspiracy to break Brown out that included those from Kansas and the Secret Six, there was simply not as far as I can tell. Though I would be happy to take a look at whatever evidence you might want to throw out in that direction. I should especially be interested in any contacts between later members of the Kansas Seventh (Jennison, Brown Jr, Hoyt, Anthony) and members of the secret six before Brown's trial ended"

You misunderstand me entirely. I think we would all be interested in contacts between later members (what are they?) and members of the Kansas Seventh (and are we to include the Red Legs) but what's the likelihood of that, considering that Hoyt's Red Legs (who you fail to include for reasons not clear to me) never left any message trail whatever, if Stephen Z. Starr reported to us correctly. Nor did anything signigant come to the surface from these other wonderful Yankee fellows that told of their conspiracies. That usually doens't happen unless you are dealing with fools. But I don't wish to quibble with you any longer. That's why I don't contribute to Civil War boards. Quibble with me in print, and I mean in books and articles. That's where the significant discourse is going on, I assure you. Split hairs with someone else.
