question re: Wm King?

There is a Wm King with a military marker on his gravesite in the Carrollton Hollow Cemetery near Leadhill AR. It states: Wm King, 5 KS Cavalry Co D, but no dates of service or death. He is buried very close to my grandmother and I have been told there were Kings in the family line, but have not been able to ascertain that. This marker has puzzled me. there were several families with the name King in this area in the 1800's however several Wm's so am attempting to find any "dates" that could help me. Any information on this man would be greatly appreciated. He evidently lived in AR, which puzzles me also. could he have served under Gen Stande Waite, the Cherokee? Thank you for any assistance.
