Dedication of Statue to 1st KCV

Historic moment a long time overdue: Through the efforts of the Amen Society of the AME Church, residents and organizations in Butler and Bates County a statue will be dedicated in Butler the weekend of October 10th, 2008, to honor and commemorate the 1st Kansas Colored Volunteers - the first African-American Regiment to engage in combat during the Civil War at Island Mound.
