Texas and Arkansas troops would have been the best equipped soldiers in the expedition. The Missouri troops and back east, the Kentuckians, were orphans without any state support and were often issued second-rate equipment and shoddy uniform euipment. That is why the oder to kill any Confederate prisoner who was wearing any portion of Federal Uniform after the fight at Mine Creek was so cruel. The best equipment most Confederate Missouri troops had was captured from the Union forces.

Missouri guerillas whom Price used to screen his advance would have worn no uniforms and rightfully fought under the black flag, granting no quarter and expecting none. VR, Scott
