Therer are several Texas soldiers buried in the old Fort Riley Post Cemetery. According to records they werecaptured during the Battle of Apache Canyon in the New Mexico Territory. The POWs were used as the fort's labor force during the summer of 1862.

The southerners have all "Unknown" CSA markers but the records containing their names and unit designations have apparently been lost (and I have looked). There is also a bronze marker nears their final restingplace that tells their story.

Not far from their graves in the final resting place of Bvt. Major Lewis A. Armistead's second wife, Cornelia, who died during the cholera epidemic there in early August 1855. I was able to get the government issued tombstone replaced since it contained three major errors. We also emplaced a bronze marker next to her grave telling aboput her life and death. VR, Scott
