I realize this is probably an "out there" kind of message, but we are doing work on our house and today, after tearing off our deck, we found a very old iron ball buried in the dirt. It is 4 inches in diameter and weighs five pounds.

It looks like a Civil War cannonball, but I realize that may be the result of an over-active imagination. We live very close to State Line Road on the Kansas side, off 89th Street.

Was that the type of thing that families collected over the years and maybe kept around in their yards for posterity? Is there any way I could find out how old it is?
