Mahlon,

Think I may have some info for you. I assume you hadn't seen the obituary in the Topeka State Journal--here it is verbatim:

"Woodford C. Maddox, 75 years of age, died today at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Scott, 1100 East Second Street. Mr. Maddox, who was a veteran of the Civil War, came to Kansas thirty-seven years ago. Burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery."

Silver Lake is in Shawnee County, Kansas, ten miles west of Topeka. I may have something that will confirm that he's at Silver Lake, but don't have that readily available.

The 1894 GAR roster for Kansas indicates that he was then a member of Silver Lake Post #207, G.A.R. He must have transferred to Lincoln Post #1 (don't know what the 665 is)in Topeka when he moved in with his daughter. The 1894 roster simply gives his name as Wood C. Maddox, and his service as a Sgt. in the 7th Illinois Infantry, Company D, rather than Company B. But that roster does have typos.
