Honoring Veterans

It is interesting to me that officials within Kansas seemingly have different view points when it comes to recognizing service submitted by earlier pioneers, ie duty during the Civil War.

My FLORA family research revealed that three brothers were in Linn county October 25, 1864, one with Company C 7th Cav, other two in Kansas State Militia's Company F, 11th Regiment from Lyon county, documented at Kansas State Historical Society's records.

Labette county said it now was honoring John Andrew FLORA (1845IN-1934KS) buried in Oswego cemetery, on Memorial Day.

Montgomery county seemingly is ignoring Wolney Pulaski ("V P ") FLORA
(1834IN-1909KS) buried in Mount Hope cemetery.

Their brother, Daniel Rice Boon FLORA (1838IN-1908CO), buried in Cedar Hill cemetery, Ouray county, Colorado is likewise NOT so honored.

The three brothers had two sisters who likewise ended in Kansas from Indiana, Josephine (Flora) BEAUCHAMP (1833IN-1915KS) Olathe, Johnson county and Sarah Catherine (Flora) MUTH (1836IN-1877KS), Centropolis, Franklin county.

In addition to being civil war veterans, they were also early (1860) pioneers in Kansas, later (1875) the older two went to Colorado high country near Hinsdale & Ouray counties.

So be it!

Bill
