I am looking for info on the capture of 5 Virginians at Shepherdstown, (W) Va. in early Dec. 1861. The Dec 11, 1861, issue of the Hagerstown Freedom and Torchlight said that 2 companies of the 12th Indiana (doesn't mention whether it was Cav or Inf.-but I suspect it was infantry,) crossed the Potomac one night and capture the men. The prisoners included R. Davis Shepherd son-in-law of Conf. congressman Alexander Boetler.
