Seeing your message makes me have to review my data on "Doc" Birney. Are you acquainted with the FIND-A-GRAVE site? I have entered he and his wife's grave sites there to give them a cyber-space where they can be thoughtfully remembered. Check it out. We need a picture or pictures of him tho. Do you have any that could be placed on the site?? I have several vignettes of the "Doc's" early adventures during the Civil War. He made the history books. He is mentioned in the multi-volume Official Records of the Civil War and he was awarded a prize for his action in the early months of the war. I'll try to dig those out and put them on here.
