I scanned the OR's for this tonight and could not find anything that said Oglesby actually went on the deputation to get that mail steamer back.

I suspect that Magoffin was trying to have it both ways and let him come up river to get it back since the other boat was openly operating as pro-Confederate and based in Paducah.

The KY neutrality thing was a house of cards at best and it was a fantast for Magoffin tothink it would hold.

Have you tried his papers?
