100th Regiment, Indiana Infantry, James G. Walker

Through records on Ancestry.com I have recently found that my Great-Great Grandfather James Gillen "Jerry" Walker was a member of the Indiana 100th Infantry Regiment and that he died in November of 1963 in Tennessee. Further research of the 100th Company Roster shows that he was in Company H and that he was killed at Mission Hill, TN on Nov. 25, 1963. I did not know very much about the Civil War battles that were fought around Chattanooga until doing some online research lately. It has been very interesting reading about the exploits of the 100th Indiana Infantry. Knowing that my ancestor gave his life for his country during the Civil War has given me a new sense of appreciation and gratitude for all of those who have been willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for this great country.

I am going to be traveling in the Chattanooga area on July 18 and am planning on spending some time looking at the Civil War sites in the area. I won't have a lot of time to spend there, so I was wondering if anyone could give any advice on what are the best places to visit? I am especially interested in the Mission Hill battle since that seems to be the place where my Great-Great Grandfather lost his life. What would be a good book to have that best describes the Mission Hill battle? I was also going to try to find James Walker's grave site. He is not listed as being in the Chattanooga National Cemetery. Are there any good resources available to help find where he might be buried? Any other information that could be given about the 100th Indiana would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dean Walker
