Mentions forced march in the direction of Richmond KY.(looking for Kirby Smith)Returning to Camp Yates the 7th."This little juant was also pretty severe on new troops, water being scarce or hard to find, and dust correspondingly abundant."

The fall of 1862 experienced a severe drought,KY. into middle TN.. The dust and lack of water of this initiation culminated in a "quest" for water on Doctors Creek,Goodnight Spring, just below Chaplin's Hill,Perryville KY. Oct.8,1862.
