Bill, You mean Pvt.William H.Norton not Horton.Illinois Data Base has him at age 18 enlisted Feb.5,1864 for three years discharged July 13,1865 at Louisville,KY. His residence was Concord, Adams CO. IL.,occupation Farmer. It would be a good bet he went with someone of his company that narrows it down to 80-100 or so.Sure beats a thousand or more.Maybe someone who mustered around the same time as him. That farther reduces. What are some of the early settlers, Mr.Norton era, names that could narrow it down.I extrapilated(sic) those assigned to HQ there are around 30 counting new arrivals with the highest rank of 1LTC Thomas W.Gains.Many with English names. Thanks for solving the Blind name.I have been in the Montana maybe 1970's I worked out of Gillett Wyoming but, we roamed around I have an interest in Plains Indians. I see the town was once called Sheep Dip....I used that to ward off the itching from a bad poison ivy or oak attack I can't rember which. It dried it up.I'll see what I can find. Just a note this thread involved Frank Campos who has passed away but, is not forgotten. The same as William H. Norton. Thanks
