My great-grandfather was Orrin (or Oren, or Orren, depending on his mood and that day of the week) Perry Seward, Private in the 78th Illinios Volunteer Regiment, Company H. He enlisted with his step brother, John Pate, who was killed in Nashville, Tennessee, February 7, 1863. Oren Perry was captured in Georgia and spent the better part of the last two years of the war as a POW, ending the war at Andersonville. He was born in Pontoosuc, IL, in 1842, and lived there at the time of enlistment. He died in Lewistown, IL, having lived from around 1908 till his death in 1927, with my grandmother, Josephene Seward, and grandfather, Richard Marion Seward. He is buried near the center monument with three other Civil War veterans at Oak Hill Cemetary in Lewistown.
