Living History Interpreters Needed

The Gaylord Building, a historic site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, seeks individuals for its living history group - the Sleepers Base Ball Club of Lockport, Illinois. The purpose of the Sleepers is to provide the public with an educational and entertaining experience in which to learn about the past. The corps of volunteers should have an interest in history and a desire to share that interest with the public. In addition to "ballists," who interpret the national pasttime as it was played before the Civil War, the group needs period-clothed "kranks" (fans), who provide a glimpse into American society of the era.

Ballists must be between 18 and 98 years of age, and kranks can be any age. Previous base ball or living history experience is not required, but active reenactors would be ideal. The interpretive season is typically May through September, although there will be opportunities throughout the year. To discover more about the Sleepers, curious individuals should contact the historic site directly at 1.815.838.9400.
