I came accross this mans grave buried next to my grandparents in Jefferson Iowa. His stone says he was in Co. E 64th Il Inf. and the US Navy. Checked his pension card and looks like he applied for both army and navy. Also mentions his alias as John Delaney. I see on the civil war site it says he deserted in Mar. 1864. Someday will look for his obituary.
