I wanted to post this sooner, but I didn't have any info on this until a couple of weeks ago. I spoke with the fellow who organized this event in Galena, and he told me the living history raised about $350 extra for the historic site. While that doesn't seem like a large amount of money to help sustain a park of its size, the Grant Home is very grateful to receive any funding that can find its way there.
I talked with a volunteer at the Grant Home and was told money is so tight there, they have to check the books to see how much toilet paper they can afford before they purchase it!! They have had to cut way back on paid staff, ... it's really no different than the rest of the country has faced I guess, just sad. If you came out for this living history, hope you had a good experience there. If you plan on going to the Grant Home or any other Illinois Historic Site this year, don't forget to pitch a dollar or two (if you can spare it) into the donation box.
