I am interested in the campaign of the 81st Illinois Infantry in pursuit of Confederates under Sterling Price in Missouri in the fall of 1864. I have found the unit in Duvalls Bluff Arkansas in August. But little information after that. I believe that the unit was commanded by Leander Blanden, whose sword is in my possession. Col. Blanden is usually associated with the 95th Illinois. In particular I am interested in any participation by the 81st in the Battle of the Little Blue River on Oct 21 and 22nd. I believe that my GGGrandfather,Solomon Rutledge Smith, was captured by the 81st during that engagement. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
