The Union League Club of Chicago continues its celebration of the bicentennial of President Abraham Lincoln's birth with a forum on the history and legacy of the Lincoln Douglas debates featuring Dr. David Zarefsky, Owen L. Coon Professor of Communication Studies at Northwestern University, and author of Lincoln, Douglas and Slavery: In the Crucible of Public Debate.

One of our nation's foremost communication scholars, David Zarefsky teaches courses in the history and criticism of U.S. public discourse, with a special focus on the pre-Civil War period, as well as courses in argumentation and Presidential rhetoric. Dr. Zarefsky is the author of eight books and over 70 scholarly articles concerned with historical and contemporary American public discourse, argumentation, rhetorical criticism, and public speaking. He is president of the Rhetoric Society of America and is a past president of the National Communication Association and the Central States Communication Association, and is a highly sought after speaker.
