Hey I was just reading the thread between you guys as I am always looking around for new info on the 17th Ill. I noticed that you had mentioned my G-G-Great Grandfather Abram Van Auken. My uncle Frank donated it to the museum. I remember reading it and still do (the copy). Abram and several other members of the regiment can be found in the Bath Ill. cemetary. HH Mitchell, first guy to die in the Regt. 1861. Capt. Wheeler etc. I return to Mason county for the family reunion every year and continue to enrich my understanding of the history there.
