I would be interested in your findings. I think the early Illinos Regiments went off to war in the old Gray Militia uniform. As a matter of fact, I think they were wearing the old gray uniforms at Ft. Donelson when they came under friendly fire. Wonder why they would be fired upon wearing gray uniforms. I also remember reading a story of the state of Illinois trying to issue the old uniforms to the POW's at Camp Douglas due to thier color and uslessness to the Illinois troops becuause of the color and being stopped by Federal authorities.
