The the microfilm newspaper section of the Lincoln Library in Springfield has a card catalogue of all the Illinois Civil War regiments. Under each regiment is a list of letters sent to newspapers by men from that regiment. The card will list the newspaper, date, and page. This can be an outstanding source of information.
