Re: Info on 6th Illinois Cavalry

Janet,
The only pictures I could find of anyone in the 6th Cavalry were General Grierson and one other enlisted man. The Abraham Presidential Library might have pictures of others in the unit or maybe a regimental picture. I did find the following. You may or may not have this info so I will give it to you
Mr. Robinson enlisted in the 6th Illinois Cavalry Company K on Mar. 1, 1864. at Germantown, Tn. for 3years. He was sworn in by Captain Charlesworth. He mustered into the unit on Mar. 30, 1864 at Memphis, Tn. He left the unit on Aug. 31, 1865 at Demopolis, Ala. He was from McCleansboro, Hamiton County Illinois. He was 22 when he enlisted. He was 5'9", had auburn hair, blue eyes, was fair complected and was origionally from Sumner County Tennessee. I hope this will give you a good start if you want to know more. If you desire to obtain his military record or what part of it is available, you can click on the link at the top of the page and they will help you. I can attest to the fact that they do good work and will turn over every stone that they can find to get his records as complete as is possible.
Frank
