I have had the fortune to have toured the original site of Camp Butler with William Peterson who wrote an excellent synopsis of the camp's history in Illinois Historical Journal, Volume LXXXII/Number 2/Summer 1989. There is a previous article in the same journal by Camilla A. Corlas Quinn (Volume LXXXI/Number 1/Spring 1988)about Confederate Soldiers buried at Camp Butler. Please note that the current site "Camp Butler" where soldiers from both the Union and Confederate Armies as well as those from other Wars including POWs from WWII is not on the same site as the original "Camp Butler" which is now a farm field growing beans and corn in season.
