Samuel W. Frost initially enlisted in Co. "H", 7th Kentucky Regiment. After his twelve-month enlistment expired, he reenlisted in the 5th Kentucky Cavalry. I've not yet seen his military service file, but it seems likely Frost was captured during Morgan's 'Great Raid' north of the Ohio River.
