I plan to go to Vicksburg in the spring. If you ever get to Chatanooga, on Missionary Ridge you will find a monument to them also. That is where Col. O'Meara was killed. My Great Grandpa Alex was wounded and suffered a hernea while advancing on the ridge. His best friend Alec Matthews was killed in that same action. Thier assalt stated at about 10:30 a.m. and lasted until 4:00 in the afternoon. They suffered many killed and wounded that day.
