Per OR and Dyer (pt 2), a skirmish was fought in Cockeysville,MD, NW of Baltimore city, on 18 Jul 1864 (after Early and Gilmor's men had supposedly withdrawn to VA). 8th Il Cav or elements involved. For someone familiar with the record of the 8th Il Cav, is there any indication of other Union troops involved? Who were engaged on the Confederate side -- who were they fighting?

I am researching a Confederate signal man, detailed from an infantry regt, who is recorded in the unit records as having been killed on 18 Jul 64 in MD. IF the date and location are correct, I haven't been able to account for circumstances.

Since the man was detailed, parent unit info probably second-hand, however, his mission (signaling - observation) implies presence of a larger unit he was supporting, thus I'm open to indications of incorrect date and/or site of his death.
