Hello Ronnie - I found this in Edward A. Davenport's (1888) "History of the Ninth Regiment Illinois Cavalry Volunteers", p. 45 : "July 7th our cavalry was engaged to some extent at Cache River or Cotton Plant. . . . The loss of the Union army was seven killed and fifty-seven wounded, mainly from the Thirty-third Illinois Infantry and the First Indiana Cavalry." [He leaves out the Wisconsin soldiers entirely, still there's NO DOUBT he's refering to "Round Hill" / "Hill's Plantation" ] Next paragraph:
"In some accounts this battle is termed the Battle of Peach Mound, Ark., because of large peach orchards near by. Our hospitals were on the hills among the peach trees." Someone in the Eighth Indiana also makes a similar statement. So, I think "Round Hill" = "Peach Mound" or "Peach Orchard Bluff". These Yankees were strangers to the country, after all, didn't know what to call geographical features. John
