I'm assuming that you aren't talking about Rutherford County TN and that the soldier in question is Paul F. Searcy, Co. "F", 62nd North Carolina Regiment.

If so, he was one of 433 officers and men from this regiment who surrendered at Cumberland Gap. A recent book pictured below describes life and death experiences of Confederates at Camp Douglas. Perhaps you can locate a copy.
