Pam,

I've added two (2) different photos of James M. Buckner's pension record index card to your original posting. From best I can tell he saw service with a number of different units including the 8th Illinois Infantry, the 59th Illinois Infantry, the Mississippi Marine Brigade - 5th Volunteer Infantry and finally, the 9th Missouri Infantry. While in the MMB or Mississippi Marine Brigade, it appears he was attached to a ship name the "Ram Switzerland".

The following is some abbreviated info for his service in the 8th & 59th Illinois Infantry. At Ancestry.Com, if you'll follow the link provided, there is a full-length book online about the Mississippi Marine Brigade. I've also included links to short histories of the units, of which he was a member at Ancestry.Com. Hope this helps and if you're interested in obtaining copies of his Compiled Military Service Records and/or his pension file, you can click on the link at the end of this message or on the ad at the top of the page.

Hope this helps.

Jim Martin
