I've been interested in Civil War history for a long time. I've read a lot about Sherman's march and I know that a lot of things that happened were not in the conventional line of warfare. I saw part of the history channel show about Sherman and thought it was really interesting.
I do know that most soldiers did what they had to in order to survive and a few carried it past (and some far past) the point of just surviving.
I also grew up in Walnut Hill on the grounds of what used to be a civil war era blacksmith shop. We have found many buttons, banks, belt buckles (one super nice one) and lots of other relics from the war era. I think this got me interested in civil war at an early age.
