Ann, that info is great! Mind asking where you got it from. He is one of my ancestors and that is more information than I have heard since I was 13 and came into posession of these items from my grandfather. My brother has the rifle from the civil war.

It is a family story that the sword was given to F.W. from General Sherman and I do not know if this is true or not. I was also told that F.W. was an advance scout under General Sherman. Again, I do not know if this is true but would like to know if there is some way to verify it.
