Kloth, Charles H. of Chicago, Ill, c.1840 born in Europe; Aug. 22, 1862 enlisted at Chicago as pvt., Chicago Mercantile Battery; May 22, 1863 earned the Medal of Honor at Vicksburg, Miss. where with others he carried by hand a cannon up to and fired it through an embrasure of the enemy’s works. June 17, 1865 mustered out at Baton Rouge, La. Jan. 15, 1895 awarded Medal of Honor; at date of enlistment he was six feet, one inch tall, had light hair and blue eyes and his occupation was clerk; date of death and place of burial unknown

PROBABLY same man: Charles H. Kloth was a commercial traveler living at St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Mo. in 1880 and his year of birth c.1843 at Hamburg, Germany
Father born in Prussia and mother born at Hamburg

Did not find him in any other Census
